Oscar or Morgestraich…

March 7, 2006

…a bit of both!

Last night I watched a bit of both. This is the first time in a long time when the women looked really glam in their gowns. Most of them actually wore “gowns” rather than thin little rags that looked like ill-fitting slips, barely covering their nipples. So many seemed to believe that high fashion is synonymous with good taste, yuck!

Frame of a live cam on the BarfusserplatzAnyway, I missed Rees’ award because I was watching Fasnacht, the start of it. My time was 7pm (PST), the Morgestraich starts at 4am (Switzerland). The live cams captured it well, although all city/street lights are out, you don’t see much more than laterns on people’s masks, little blobs of light, and the big laterns that show the cliques’ theme for the year. But the audio was great and I having going at work now. Last year the live cams could be controlled by users, but the panning was erratic and missed a lot of the action. This year they are set to automatic panning. Select from 5 cams here: Fasnacht live cams.

OK, back to work!

Fasnacht starts…

March 5, 2006

Basler Fasnacht Online Photo Galleries…tomorrow!

Actually, it starts at 4:00h (4am) on Monday, March 6). But here at Pacific Standard Time, it starts at 19:00h (7pm) tomorrow. I’ll be watching. The whole world speaks about Carneval in Rio, or Carneval in New Orleans. Basler Fasnacht tops them all IMHO! It’s a feast for the eyes, check it out. Basler Fasnacht Online

Are you a Heimwehbasler? From where are you watching Fasnacht this year? Leave me a comment.
